Blog #5 - Proposal for Expansion of Engineering Lab into the Meta.Verse

A Proposal for Expanding Engineering Computer Lab for Education 4.0

cBaratko (2024); Tremusa (2022)

This proposal will expand the current computer lab into VR/AR/MR technologies to create a metaverse learning environment for engineering students, Soylu & Lee (2023). The proposal emphasizes the rapid evolution of user experience (UX) and "meta realities" as drivers for this expansion, Pyae et al. (2023). These technologies are essential for preparing students for Industry 4.0 and Education 4.0, Castro et al. (2024). There is great potential for VR/AR technology applications in subjects like calculus, where students can visualize 3-D curves, and chemical engineering, where students can virtually explore chemical plants. This proposal also implements the guidelines for designing practical user experiences in these immersive environments:

Organizing the spatial environment for efficiency and flexibility5.

●Prioritizing user comfort and avoiding overwhelming experiences.

●Considering hardware limitations and using cues to guide users.

●Creating compelling experiences grounded in real-world knowledge.

●Empowering users with control and opportunities for trial and error.

(IxDF, 2020); (Vi et al., 2019)

By moving into Education 4.0, which is part of Industry 4.0, we will be integrating AR/VR/MR, personalized learning, UX, collaboration & social interaction, improved accessibility and affordability, ethics, teacher training, and continued R&D and including the new organization, Artificial Intelligence Information Systems, AIIS, Collins et al. (2021).

We must be a part of that!
