Blog # 6 - Discussion of a Learning Object, i.e. Your Canvas UX Course, for the New Met-Verse Computer Lab

Here is a question for you...
What is the relationship between psychedelics and VR...?
                                                    That's an interesting question...right?

For this Blog # 6, you will investigate and learn that on your very 1st first assignment.
So, let's not waste time. Let's get started with your UX course.

This is your course, Heuristics Evaluation.

Objective: To learn User EXperience, UX so that the new Meta-Verse Engineering Computer Lab
can be efficiently designed with the user in mind
c(Hillman, 2022)

    Contents of course.
Your course is designed using Canvas LMS. Here is the opening module.
Very simple, you just go step-be-stgep thru the module.
Contained here is your syllabus. Very important
Followed by the references used in this course
NOTE: All refs used in the course are also cited at the end of this discussion.
Then, a tiny assignment for your quiz work  to introduce yourself
Followed by a quick quiz on how quizzes work on the site.

Moving on to the core of the first UX Learning Module

This is the first significant module for your course.
There are 2 assignments. Let's briefly describe them
Assignment #1 is for you to obtain two books, one on UX and the other by Dr. Leary
Start reading these two books during your 1st week of studies
     For this, you will
When complete, do ADiscussion #1 based on what you learned from those books
Assignment #2 is similar, except it is based on the original journal article on UX Heuristics
here, you must do a particular assignment in Appendix 1 &2...
Molich & Nielson (1990). The original article on heuristics and design
Read, think about it, extract meaningful information asked for, and then do Discussion #2

The following modules are very similar.
More journals to read and write discussions about.
You will be doing a heuristic evaluation of user interfaces (Nielson & Molich, 1990)
Then, when those are completed, you will start moving on to establishing your own heuristics
You will see that various author describe their own set of heuristics
but now you must synthesize these for your own use.

All of these modules will be easily accessible on your computer.
     No special apps
     Simple sign-in ID & PW
Because it's online, you can work on it whenever you choose
Suggestion. Make hard copies of the journal you will read.
Research shows that reading hard copies increases student's learning
Do the same for other items you will read and study.
Always write your discussion posts on MS Word first, then edit, use Grammarly, then post

After establishing your particular heuristics, you will be in a position to start designing the new Meta-Verse computer lab. This is clearly your goal.

Items you will need to consider for your new engineering lab are

Handheld or Wearable

I hope you have found this blog an excellent overview of the UX class you will take.
There is much to learn in the fields of UX/VR/MR/AR/XR
The field is expanding rapidly, so you must be grounded in your studies and understanding.
Study hard
Remember well
and
Always try to get ahead of the XR World

Blog #5 - Proposal for Expansion of Engineering Lab into the Meta.Verse

A Proposal for Expanding Engineering Computer Lab for Education 4.0

cBaratko (2024); Tremusa (2022)

This proposal will expand the current computer lab into VR/AR/MR technologies to create a metaverse learning environment for engineering students, Soylu & Lee (2023). The proposal emphasizes the rapid evolution of user experience (UX) and "meta realities" as drivers for this expansion, Pyae et al. (2023). These technologies are essential for preparing students for Industry 4.0 and Education 4.0, Castro et al. (2024). There is great potential for VR/AR technology applications in subjects like calculus, where students can visualize 3-D curves, and chemical engineering, where students can virtually explore chemical plants. This proposal also implements the guidelines for designing practical user experiences in these immersive environments:

Organizing the spatial environment for efficiency and flexibility5.

●Prioritizing user comfort and avoiding overwhelming experiences.

●Considering hardware limitations and using cues to guide users.

●Creating compelling experiences grounded in real-world knowledge.

●Empowering users with control and opportunities for trial and error.

(IxDF, 2020); (Vi et al., 2019)

By moving into Education 4.0, which is part of Industry 4.0, we will be integrating AR/VR/MR, personalized learning, UX, collaboration & social interaction, improved accessibility and affordability, ethics, teacher training, and continued R&D and including the new organization, Artificial Intelligence Information Systems, AIIS, Collins et al. (2021).

We must be a part of that!

Blog #4 - Professional Learning Microblogging

Students Doing Their Micro-Blogging, c2024 Baratko & Microsoft Designer

Our Post #4 This Week -
Whether you do Mini-Blogging, Micro-Blogging, or Macro-Blogging, it is all about learning. And with learning comes communication; with that, there is collaboration. There are copious pros and cons to this. The pros and cons are listed below in the following infographic.

However, whatever blogging level you do, there is one top item to be super aware of, and that is...
                                                                --> "Scraping"
Scraping comes from the word scraper, a tool for scraping deteriorated paint from surfaces. Scraping is a very advanced method of playing peek-a-boo with a social media site to extract data.
Whether you are scraping or being scraped, be sure you are protected. You can use several protectors, and I will discuss that in the next blog post because it is a very advanced area.

" +'s " & " -'s "

Benefits & Challenges with Social Media Use are:

Enhanced knowledge, skills, teaching, learning, and access to professional communities.
Can foster collaboration because they give teachers and students a place to share their ideas.

However, challenges include managing the quantity of available content, the risks of context collapse, and having the cultures and discourse of online spaces.
